This time, we ordered a Frenzy FLEX 24×29 MRT. Vector prominently advertises its Motion Sensor and Multi Reticle system on the box. Fair enough. Except that when I opened it, neither was the first thing that caught my attention.
I looked at the window: and it is huge. A 24 × 29 mm window on a red dot this compact makes an immediate impression. Enough, in fact, to overshadow almost everything else. That would be a shame, because after several weeks moving this Frenzy from one platform to another, I found that its most spectacular feature might not be its only compelling one.

24 × 29 mm: the obvious place to start
Once mounted, that visual impact quickly becomes a practical advantage. The frame almost disappears from perception and the reticle remains exceptionally easy to pick up, even when head position is less than perfectly repeatable. The benefit is obvious on a handgun intended for dynamic shooting, but it is just as relevant in airsoft, where sight pictures are rarely acquired from textbook positions: wearing a face mask, shooting around cover, snapping the gun to the shoulder, or simply bringing the replica up slightly differently from one engagement to the next. My MP7 ultimately provided the first concrete demonstration of what that 24 × 29 mm window could really change.

I normally use a taller riser on this replica to bring the red dot higher and obtain a more natural sight picture. With the Frenzy, it became almost redundant, so I switched to the smaller mount. The window provides so much latitude that I can pick up the reticle immediately with a much lower mounting height, without feeling as though I have to crush my head down behind the sight to find the dot. On a platform as compact as an MP7, removing the taller riser also cleans up the overall profile and eliminates a component I simply no longer need. What could easily have been little more than a marketing line — “look how big our window is” — therefore delivers a far more tangible benefit than expected.

The opposite happened on the SRS. I had planned to use the Frenzy as a short-range secondary sight alongside the scope, creating a sort of co-witness arrangement that would let me transition instantly from magnification to the red dot. An excellent idea on paper; considerably less so once the M76 was installed: the window is too large! It occupies enough space to make the configuration I had envisioned rather pointless. The very feature that made my riser unnecessary on the MP7 had just killed my SRS setup. That could have ended the experiment on this rifle. In practice, almost the opposite happened — but we will come back to that.

Compact, light and seriously built
Once past that first impression, there is plenty to examine around that oversized window. The body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminium and the construction immediately inspires confidence. Vector claims IPX7 water resistance and a 1,500 G shock rating. I have neither the equipment nor the intention of reproducing a 1,500 G test protocol, so I treat those figures for what they are: manufacturer specifications. They nevertheless give a clear indication of the design brief — the SCRD-M76 was not built merely to live an easy life on the rail of an AEG.

Its weight is much easier to verify. Vector quotes roughly 50 grams for the sight alone, while my complete setup comes to 77 grams including the mount. That is remarkably light considering the size of the viewing window. On the MP7 or an AEG, the optic virtually disappears in use; on a handgun, where every gram added above the slide eventually matters, that low mass becomes even more significant.

The mounting system also contributes to the sight’s versatility. The interface and range of available adapters make it relatively easy to move the Frenzy from one platform to another, something I took full advantage of throughout this review.
Vector supplies a generous selection of screws with the optic, and there are enough plates and mounting options available to accommodate both rail-mounted installations and handgun use.

That is exactly how the next stage of this review will unfold: the M76 is due to be fitted to a friend’s 9 mm pistol at the club, using an adapter plate in place of the rear-sight base. Before subjecting it to 9 mm recoil, however, there is still plenty to discover.
A well-placed CR1632 and the wonderfully improbable Vekey
Vector chose a CR1632 to power the M76. It may be less familiar than the ubiquitous CR2032 found in many optics, but it is hardly exotic today. They are readily available online, and keeping one or two spares on hand removes any practical concern.

The real advantage lies in the way the battery is integrated. The CR1632 sits in a side-loading tray, allowing it to be replaced without removing the sight. It is the sort of detail that rarely attracts much attention at the point of purchase but becomes very welcome when the battery actually needs changing. There is no need to remove the optic, disturb the mounting interface and then wonder whether zero has shifted: open the tray, replace the battery and close it again. On an airsoft replica this is convenient; on a zeroed handgun intended for competition shooting, it becomes genuinely relevant.

The box also contains a distinctly Vector Optics accessory: the Vekey, which is indeed the name Vector gives to this small rifle-shaped multi-tool. Two Torx drivers, two flat-blade tips, and a design that somehow turns an entirely ordinary tool into one of the first things you notice in the box. It made me smile: you wonder why someone spent time designing a tool in the shape of an assault rifle… then you put it in the case and end up using it. It combines the tools you need in a format that is instantly recognisable among the rest of your gear. A gimmick? Certainly. A useful gimmick? Absolutely — I loved it.
Electronics that stay out of the way
It is time to return to the features Vector chose to print prominently on the box. The Frenzy’s controls are straightforward and take only a few operations to understand. The buttons switch the optic on, raise or lower brightness and cycle through the available reticles. The brightness range allows the display to be matched to ambient light, while the M76 also includes settings intended for use with night vision. Everything works without requiring repeated trips back to the manual, which is probably the best compliment one can pay to the ergonomics of a red-dot sight.

The Motion Sensor is even more transparent in use. After a period of inactivity, the Frenzy automatically powers down to preserve battery life, then wakes as soon as the firearm or replica is picked up or moved. The technology itself is no longer unusual, but here it is integrated well enough that you simply stop thinking about power management. Set the reticle and brightness, put the gun down and the M76 goes to sleep; pick it up again and it is already ready. That is exactly what I expect from this kind of automation: not having to think about it.
At this stage, the Frenzy is already an extremely pleasant optic to use: a huge window, negligible weight, straightforward controls and several intelligent details. That alone would make it a good red dot. Yet none of those features produced the biggest surprise of the test.
Parallax — or rather, the parallax I could not find
Parallax is a particularly interesting subject with a red-dot sight, and even more so when the viewing window allows this much freedom in eye position. One of the principal advantages of this type of sight is precisely that it does not demand the rigid alignment of a conventional optic: the dot appears on the target and should ideally remain there even as the eye moves around the window. Optical systems are never entirely magical, however, and some red dots show a more or less noticeable shift when deliberately viewed well off-axis.


With 24 × 29 mm available, it would have been a shame not to investigate. I therefore conducted the test at 50 metres with both firearm and target fixed, deliberately moving my eye so that the reticle travelled through different areas of the window. I expected to reveal at least some movement, however slight. The result is remarkably easy to summarise: I could not see any.
Let us be precise about what that means. I am obviously not claiming to have demonstrated a mathematically complete absence of parallax, nor do I have an optical bench capable of measuring minute deviations. I am reporting only what I could observe under my test conditions. I deliberately looked for a perceptible shift of the reticle at 50 metres and could not make one appear. And that, quite frankly, impressed me enormously.
That result matters all the more because it gives the large window genuine purpose. The ability to place the eye quickly almost anywhere behind the sight would be far less attractive if the reticle began wandering across the target as soon as the viewing angle moved off-axis. Under my test conditions, the freedom offered by the 24 × 29 mm window remained fully usable. For dynamic shooting as well as airsoft, where a sight picture acquired on the move or around cover is rarely textbook-perfect, I rate that very highly.
Multi Reticle: Vector was right to put it on the box after all
That left the much-advertised Multi Reticle — the feature I had thoroughly ignored when first confronted by the size of the window. The SCRD-M76 offers several reticle presentations, ranging from a simple dot for precise aiming to a large circle combined with a central dot. The circle is quoted at approximately 64/65 MOA depending on the available specifications. I do not have the equipment required to seriously measure the single MOA separating those figures and, more importantly, I doubt it makes any practical difference. We will therefore settle on roughly 64/65 MOA and leave the search for the missing MOA to those fortunate enough to own a proper optical bench.


My main question was whether multiple reticles actually added anything or merely provided another line on the specification sheet. The simple dot was naturally my preference when precision mattered most: it obscures very little of the target and allows clean aiming. On an SMG or an AEG used more dynamically, however, the circle-and-dot presentation completely changes the sight picture. The large circle is immediately visible, captures the target area and the central dot then refines the aim naturally. This is no longer merely an aesthetic choice: depending on the platform and distance, I genuinely began selecting the reticle according to the task at hand.
A hint of EOTech 552
On the AK, the circle-and-dot reticle reminded me of something I know very well: my old EOTech 552. I am obviously not comparing the technologies — the 552 is a holographic weapon sight whereas the Frenzy is a reflex sight — but the visual philosophy is close enough to make the sensation immediately familiar. With that large circle surrounding the central dot, the eye barely needs to search for the aiming point: it catches the overall shape first and the sight picture naturally refines itself.

There is probably a little nostalgia for the 552 involved, but the result works remarkably well on the AEG, and the Frenzy adds one argument that is difficult to ignore: weight. An EOTech 552 weighs around 326 grams, compared with 50 grams for the M76 alone and 76 grams for my complete setup with its mount. In the configuration actually used, that means approximately 250 grams disappear from the top of the replica. A quarter of a kilogram may look insignificant when comparing two specification sheets on a screen; after several hours with the gun in your hands, it feels considerably less trivial.

That was the point at which Multi Reticle stopped being merely a nice feature. A simple dot for more deliberate shooting; circle and dot when acquisition speed and transitions take priority: each display began to correspond to a genuine use case. In the end, the two words Vector chose to emphasise on the box made considerably more sense than they had when I first opened it.
The .22 LR, or how to forget you came to work
Then there was the .22 LR, where I intended to revisit my brilliant co-witness idea after it had been killed at birth by the Frenzy’s decidedly generous window on the SRS. I could simply have removed the sight and moved on. Instead, I fired a few rounds with the Frenzy used on its own, just to see how it behaved.

A few rounds quickly became quite a few more.
The dot allows precise work, acquisition is immediate, and the behaviour I had observed during the parallax test makes the whole setup feel exceptionally natural. Shoulder the rifle, look at the target and the reticle is simply there. There is virtually no stage at which you find yourself thinking about the red dot itself.
I had, however, arrived at the range with a fairly simple mission: test the Frenzy, verify a few points and, above all, take the photographs required for this review. I forgot to take the photographs. I simply started shooting with it, and by the time I realised the session was nearly over I had produced far more targets than photographs.
Admittedly, that is not terribly professional when preparing an article, but it probably says more than three paragraphs devoted to “shooting enjoyment”. Some products keep you focused on the product throughout the test: you take notes, check details and make comparisons. Others eventually disappear from the equation altogether; you stop testing the equipment and simply start using it. On the .22 LR, the Frenzy crossed that line without me noticing.
The adjustment mechanism gives a light click with each elevation or windage correction. It is much finer than the click of a conventional scope turret, but remains both audible and tactile enough to keep track of adjustments. Once zeroed, reacquisition after each shot at 50 metres is immediate thanks to the reticle’s brightness. On the C50 target, I particularly enjoyed using the circle reticle without the central dot.
One final examination remains: 9 mm
I do not consider this review entirely complete yet. Vector clearly intends this Frenzy family for dynamic shooting, and the SCRD-M76 therefore deserves more than the gentle recoil of a .22 LR before some of its promises can be fully validated. The next step will be a friend’s 9 mm pistol at the club, with the red dot installed using an adapter plate in place of the rear-sight base.
It is worth noting just how comprehensive the supplied hardware is. I have rarely seen so many different screws included with an optic, and the adapter plate adds almost as many again.

This will provide an opportunity to examine several points that neither the AEG nor the .22 can meaningfully validate: zero retention under more substantial recoil, how quickly the reticle can be reacquired after the shot, and the practical value of that 24 × 29 mm window on a handgun. Multi Reticle should also become particularly relevant in this environment, where the balance between acquisition speed and precision genuinely matters.
I deliberately prefer not to anticipate the result. Vector’s 1,500 G figure is a manufacturer specification; actual behaviour on the 9 mm will be my test. After what the Frenzy has shown me so far, however, I freely admit that I am very interested to see how far it can go.
Conclusion: the surprise favourite I never saw coming
I rarely go this far in a conclusion, so there is little point in being coy: I absolutely loved this Frenzy. I initially expected to test a red dot whose defining feature would be its enormous 24 × 29 mm window. Instead, I ended up with an optic on which I found far fewer faults than expected. The window naturally delivers the initial “wow” factor, but it almost becomes secondary to the coherence of the package as a whole: negligible weight, a side-loading battery tray, a Motion Sensor that disappears completely from the user experience, reticles that prove genuinely useful on different platforms and, above all, the parallax shift I deliberately tried to provoke at 50 metres without being able to make it visible.
Each platform ultimately revealed a different side of the optic. The MP7 showed me that the size of the window could even change the way I mounted the sight by making my usual riser unnecessary. On the AEG, the 64/65 MOA circle-and-dot brought back something of my old EOTech 552, but with roughly a quarter of a kilogram removed from the top of the gun. The .22 LR first rejected my co-witness idea, then made me forget that I had gone to the range to work. The 9 mm test now remains to assess zero retention and the M76’s behaviour under significantly greater recoil, but it would take a serious disappointment to erase everything the Frenzy has shown me so far.
There is nevertheless one point on which Vector has put me in an almost uncomfortable position: that superb, oversized window is not protected against BB impacts. Those who know me will know that I am generally no great admirer of transparent protectors fitted in front of sighting devices. They can reflect light, collect dirt, scratch, and add another optical interface where I would rather have none. Yet for once, I will probably fit one. After all these years insisting that optics are made to be used rather than kept under glass, I would be genuinely unhappy to see a BB destroy a red dot I have come to like this much.
The Frenzy FLEX 24×29 MRT therefore began this review with a huge window and an immediate “wow” factor. It ends it with something much harder to achieve: the desire to leave it mounted and keep shooting with it. This is no longer simply a good red dot that I recommend because its specification sheet makes sense. It has become a genuine favourite, probably the red dot that has impressed me most in quite some time. The 9 mm test remains as its final examination and, for once, I will not even pretend to hide how keen I am to see just how far it can go.
